Bridging Micro-Analytical and Microsimulation Models in Traffic Modelling

Updated 26 Jan 2026 · 1 min read

For decades, well-established concepts have formed the backbone of traffic modelling. As the field evolves, there is a realization that connecting and integrating analytical and microsimulation techniques will help traffic modellers greatly.

Dr Rahmi Akçelik recently made a presentation at the 2024 TRB Joint Traffic Analysis and Modeling Workshop, organised by the TRB Committee on Highway Capacity & Quality of Service and the TRB Standing Committee on Traffic Simulation.

This approach, aimed at enhancing model transparency, revisits concepts first proposed a quarter-century ago but not widely implemented. The presentation highlights key model elements crucial for ensuring compatibility between these two modelling approaches in traffic engineering.
