Roundabout capacity model using gap acceptance by vehicle movement classes

26 Nov 2024 · Blog · 1 min read

A unique method for more accurate capacity estimation.

The gap acceptance capacity model in SIDRA INTERSECTION applies critical gap and follow-up headway parameters individually to different vehicle classes (light and heavy vehicles, large trucks, bicycles, buses, and so on).

For lanes that include more than one vehicle class, the shared lane capacity equation is applied using the vehicle class capacity values.

The method applies to all gap acceptance situations (roundabouts, sign control, permitted turns and Right Turn On Red at signals, bypass lanes by yield, merging at exit short lanes).
