Hands-on with SIDRA ASSIGN, 9 September

SIDRA ASSIGN · New in SIDRA INTERSECTION 11

If you are still balancing turning movements by hand, there is now a better way. SIDRA ASSIGN – the traffic assignment module introduced in SIDRA INTERSECTION 11 – assigns origin–destination volumes across your network automatically, at lane level.

It applies the strategic O–D volumes you already have and distributes them by route choice on travel time – the manual volume-share work that used to live in a spreadsheet, done inside the tool you already use.

Lane-level, not link-level

Conventional assignment tools work at the link level and struggle to represent what happens inside an intersection. SIDRA ASSIGN is different: it works at lane level within the SIDRA Network Model, capturing queue spillback, lane blockage and signal-timing effects that link-based macroscopic tools cannot see. It is micro-analytical – analytical assignment for the critical part of your network, not microsimulation and not a strategic regional model.

Beyond links

Where link-based tools average over a corridor, SIDRA ASSIGN models individual lanes – multimodal analysis of capacity, delay, queues and stops in detail.

Five methods, integrated

All-or-Nothing, Incremental, User Equilibrium, Stochastic User Equilibrium (the default) and Fixed Route Assignment – integrated with lane-based Network modelling and signal timing in one software environment.

Best fit

Small-to-medium networks – corridor studies, paired intersections, interchange assessments, and transport impact assessment work where route choice affects the outcome.

Learn it directly from the developers

Our next SIDRA ASSIGN online training session runs on Wednesday 9 September 2026. It is a hands-on, 3.5-hour workshop that takes you from traffic assignment fundamentals through to building, running and interpreting Network models – led by Dr Rahmi Akçelik, author of SIDRA INTERSECTION, and Dr Ian Espada. It is one of the few places you can learn the software from the team who built it.
