Two-Day Workshop
The definition of the two-day ROUNDABOUT ANALYSIS workshop workshop is given in this page. Please use the drop-down menu above for other workshop definitions, and the menu on the right (or the links below) for specific workshop details and registration forms.
VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, 12-13 AUG 2010
BOSTON, MA, USA, 16-17 AUG 2010
Workshop Level
This is a Beginner to Intermediate level workshop suitable for people who have limited exposure to, or no knowledge of SIDRA INTERSECTION, and people who want to improve their knowledge of roundabout analysis. The workshop is also suitable for existing SIDRA INTERSECTION users who have not attended a similar course, or wish to learn about new features of the latest SIDRA INTERSECTION version.
The workshop will focus on effective use of SIDRA INTERSECTION for roundabout capacity, performance and level of service analysis, including input data entry, defaults and options, and output interpretation. The two-day workshop achieves a fairly high level of use of SIDRA INTERSECTION for roundabout analysis.
The workshop combines hands-on sessions and instructions to teach participants how to effectively use SIDRA INTERSECTION, and how to apply and interpret results from the model to solve intersection problems.
Content
A good understanding of traffic operations at intersections is essential for effective use of traffic models for intersection design and traffic planning purposes. Model calibration is an important element of this process. The SIDRA INTERSECTION workshops are not just about intersection analysis, but aim to improve general understanding of operational analysis of all traffic facilities.
This is an interactive learning opportunity with hands-on computer experience, working together with instructors through many examples and case studies.
The ROUNDABOUT ANALYSIS workshop will also cover traffic signals and sign-controlled intersections for comparison with roundabout operations. The proportion of time to be allocated to each intersection type will be approximately 70% for roundabouts, 20% for traffic signals and 10% for sign-controlled intersections.
Target Audience
Traffic Engineers and Planners involved in the analysis of intersections for design, operations and planning purposes.
SIDRA INTERSECTION training workshops provide an excellent opportunity for networking by meeting your colleagues who are working in areas related to your work.
Prerequisites
- General familiarity with traffic engineering methods and terminology, and basic knowledge of intersection evaluation concepts.
- Basic skills in MS Windows use.
Workshop Objectives
Upon completion of this ROUNDABOUT ANALYSIS Workshop, participants will:
- learn the capabilities of the latest SIDRA INTERSECTION version available for capacity, performance and level of service analysis of roundabouts and other intersection types;
- be able to prepare and enter the input data required by SIDRA INTERSECTION for analyzing roundabouts and other intersection types;
- learn about essential aspects of model calibration;
- gain a basic knowledge of the use of various SIDRA INTERSECTION facilities, including Design Life Analysis, Sensitivity Analysis, Defaults and Options, and API applications;
- gain a basic understanding of SIDRA INTERSECTION output including the capacity, performance estimation and level of service methods used in SIDRA INTERSECTION for analyzing roundabouts and other intersection types; and
- gain an improved understanding of fundamentals of how modern roundabouts operate towards achieving effective roundabout design.
